A Journey Through a Galaxy Far Far Away is an automated fan fiction archive site housing Star Wars fan fiction. The archive was created so writers of Star Wars stories could easily submit their stories and so visitors wanting to read Star Wars stories could easily find the type of stories they are looking for. To make the archive run smoothly and make it easy for visitors to use there are some rules that must be followed.

General Archive Rules

1. In order to submit fan fiction stories or reviews, you must be a registered member of the archive.

2. Archive members and non-members cannot make changes to the appearance or any other aspect of the archive in anyway. If you would like to make banners, logos, or skins for the archive you are welcome to do so, you can email an admin or use the contact us page.

3. SPAM is not permitted. The archive is for the submission of Star Wars fan fiction stories and reviews of those stories only. Anything else submitted as a review or a story, like a direct link advertising a non-Star Wars site, will be removed immediately. If you have a Star Wars related site you would like to inform archive visitors about you can add a link to your site in your profile and submit a link to the links page.

4. Since this is an archive dealing with fictional stories obviously, Plagiarism is not permitted. Plagiarism is defined as an act or instance of using or closely imitating the language and thoughts of another author without authorization and the representation of that author’s work as one’s own, as by not crediting the original author. If it is reported that someone submitted a plagiarized story to this archive we, the administrators of the archive, reserve the right to take whatever action we deem fit depending on the severity of the plagiarism. Possible actions may be deleting the submission, loss of submission privileges for any future stories, or having your membership revoked entirely and your IP address and/or email address flagged so that you cannot try to make another account with a different user name.

Image Upload Rules

You can upload images through your account. These images can only consist of story banners and images/illustrations for your profile/bio. These images must be no larger than 200 height x 600 width. Story banners can be added only to the top of the story text area or in the story/chapter notes section. No images/banners are allowed in the summary or any other part of the story or in story reviews. All images must kid friendly only. No adult content is allowed in images uploaded to the archive ever.

Images uploaded to this site are to be used on this site and this site only. Please don’t steal my bandwidth. If you’re found to be violating my trust in this, I can and will remove your ability to upload images if these rules are not followed.

Account Rules

You must be a registered member of the archive to submit stories. To register you are required to provide a username/penname, and an accurate email address, in addition you must answer a couple of random questions, and accept the terms of service. All other information is optional. A temporary, randomly generated password will be emailed to you. You should change this password after you first log into your account.

1. Usernames/pennames must be kid friendly and can only contain letters, numbers, underscores, hyphens, or spaces, and must be between 3 and 20 characters long.

2. Email addresses are required incase an administrator needs to contact you to inform you of a problem with your account, to inform you of an alleged report of abuse of rules or terms of service, or to send out messages to all members to inform them of site maintenance, or other important site news that we feel members should be made aware of. We will never under any circumstances give out your email address to another site member or non-member without first seeking your permission. For instance, your email address is not visible to members or non-members of the archive. If someone wants to email you they are taken to a contact form like the one on the contact us page to email you without seeing your email address. If for some reason an admin receives a request that another member or non-member would like us to give them your email, and they have provided a legitimate reason that the contact form will not suffice, we will contact you first and ask you if you want us to give that individual the information. We will only give out that information if you tell us that it is ok to do so. I doubt this would be an issue, but you never know.

3. You are required to answer a couple of random questions that you may think are weird. These are required questions to help try and eliminate spam bots from registering. All required fields are marked by an asterisk (*).

4. You must also accept the Terms of Service to register for an account by simply checking the accept box below the terms of service.

5. Another safety precaution this archive utilizes is that all visitors who register to the site must be approved by an administrator before they will be able to submits stories or replies. This is another method to help prevent spam bots from registering to the archive. It could take an hour to several days for an admin to approve your registration depending on how busy they are, please be patient. We will try to approve your registration as soon as possible.

Story Ratings Used in the Archive

This archive uses Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) ratings as we feel that most people know what these ratings mean and using this system will have less confusion over what the ratings are. If for some reason, you are not familiar with this rating system or want to refresh your memory the ratings are as follows:

G: General Audiences. The story is acceptable for all readers.
PG: Parental Guidance Suggested. This means some content may not be suitable for children.
PG-13: Parents strongly cautioned. This means some content may be inappropriate for children under the age of 13.
R: Restricted. This means the story may contain some adult material that is not suitable for children under the age of 17.
NC-17: Adults only. This means the story contains content that is not suitable for children. No one under the age of 17 should read this story.
Stories that are rated R or NC-17 will have an age warning box that will pop up before you can continue to read the story. If you are over the age of 17 you can by-pass these warnings by changing your age verification on your profile page.

Fan Fiction Submission Rules

1. This is a Star Wars fan fiction archive and for that reason, only Star Wars related stories are allowed. If you are submitting a story to the Crossover category you can submit a story featuring content related to another fandom, however, the story must have a strong focus on Star Wars characters and/or settings.

2. All submissions must be accompanied by a complete disclaimer. If a suitable disclaimer is not included, the site administrators reserve the right to add a disclaimer.  Repeat offenders may be subject to further action up to and including removal of stories and account. The following is a basic example of a disclaimer:

Sample Disclaimer
Disclaimer: All publicly recognizable characters,
settings, etc. are the property of their respective
owners. The original characters and plot are the
property of the author.  The author is in no way
associated with the owners, creators, or producers
of any media franchise.  No copyright infringement
is intended.

3. Stories must be submitted to the proper category. If there is an appropriate sub-category, please add your story to that sub-category. The submission form allows you to choose multiple categories and classifications for your story, so please do NOT submit your story multiple times! If you have submitted a story and it has not yet appeared on the archive, please be patient. The stories must first be validated by an admin to make sure it follows these rules, before it will be visible on the archive. If you are unsure if your submission was successfully submitted please send an email message from the contact us page and an admin will check if it was received.

4. Titles and Summaries must be child friendly. Curse words will be automatically removed from titles and summaries. There are no exceptions to this rule.

5. Summaries should contain a summary of the story and nothing else. Please do not include your disclaimers, pairings, word count, crossover category, etc. in the summary. That information belongs in the story notes or in the appropriate place in the story submission form.

6. Your chapter text should contain only the chapter text. Disclaimers, pairings, word counts, and other information belong in the chapter notes. Placing this information in the text of the chapter throws the words counts off. The script will label summaries as summary and author’s notes as author’s notes. So please let it.

7. Please select no more than 3 characters when submitting your story. If possible only list the characters that are the main focus of the story not every character that is mentioned or briefly makes an appearance in the story. It makes it harder for someone looking for stories focusing on a certain character like Obi-Wan Kenobi, for instance, if Obi-Wan is listed as a character in a story that he only briefly appears, but mainly focuses on Qui-Gon Jinn.

8. Special characters (@#%^&^ etc.) and ALL CAPS are not allowed in story titles unless all caps are used for an abbreviation like ATAT Walker or the name of a type of vehicle, droid, etc. like TIE fighter or E-XD infiltrator droids.

9. “Please read”, “Untitled”, etc. are not acceptable titles or summaries.

10. Actor/actress stories are not permitted unless the actors are visiting an alternate reality that puts them alongside the characters from the show or vice versa.

11. Correct grammar and spelling are expected of all stories submitted to this site. The site admins are not grammar police, though. We’re not saying that your submissions must be free of all mistakes, but just that an attempt should be made to edit the story. Admins reserve the right deny submission approval if the submission has a multitude of grammar and/or spelling errors. The admins will inform you of the type of corrections needed. After correcting the mistakes, you can re-submit the story for validation.

12. All stories must be rated correctly and have the appropriate warnings. All adult rated stories, especially, are expected to have warnings. After all, they wouldn’t have that rating if there wasn’t something to be warned about. The site admins recognize that there is an audience for these stories, but please respect those who do not wish to read them by labeling them appropriately.

13. Stories with multiple chapters should be archived as such and Never as separate stories. Upload the first chapter of your story and then go to Manage Stories in your account to add additional chapters. If you have trouble with this, please contact an admin.

14. In the story submission form, there is a check box to check if the story is complete or not. If your story is not complete do not check this box. However, if your story is complete please make sure you check the box. If you finish the story please check the box after adding your last chapter so readers know that it is now complete. Please do not add a story that is finished without checking the complete box. Sometimes a reader may not want to read a story that is not yet done and may not read your story based on if it is complete or not.

15. As much as possible, spoiler warnings are expected on all stories. An appropriate spoiler warning to place in your summary would be: Spoilers for The Force Awakens. DO NOT do anything like this: Spoilers for the one where Rey meets Finn.

16. The challenge module that came with the archive software is not working right now, so I’ve made my own challenge section for you to utilize. I tried to keep it as close to the original challenge section as I could. The main difference is that when you issue a challenge or respond to one, you it will not instantly appear on the challenge section. An admin will need to physically add it the challenges section, but this is not an overwhelmingly difficult process so it should only take a few minutes to add after validating the submission.

In the challenge section, you will be able to either issue or respond to a challenge that has been submitted to the challenge section. After writing your response to a challenge simply go to your account, click manage stories, then add new story. Proceed to add the story like you would any other story adding all the pertinent ratings, genre, characters, etc. and make sure to choose challenge response as story type.

You cannot submit an individual challenge for only one person. For instance, I once challenged my friend, who doesn’t like stories involving character deaths, to write a story where the main character of another fandom died.  You can just add a note in the story notes that it is a response to an individual challenge.

When submitting a challenge please be as specific as possible if you want the challenges written a specific way. If you issue a challenge for a character death story and you want them to die for real, you must specify that it cannot be a dream sequence, a misunderstanding where other characters think the character died, but later discover they were wrong, can find a magical way to come back to life, etc. However, if you do not care if the author finds a creative way for the character to come back to life or not really die in the end then you can leave the challenge description as vague as you would like.

17. Stories that are a part of a series should be submitted as a series and not a regular story. This does not mean that a story you write and later decide to create a sequel to is necessarily a series. When submitting a series, you will first have to fill out the series information (series description, etc.) including whether the series is open, moderated, or closed. Open series are open to the public to add new stories in the series. Moderated series are like open with the only difference being that the series owner must approve new stories, and closed series which only the owner of the series can submit stories to. After submitting the series information, you can then submit the individual stories in the series.

Acceptable and Non-Acceptable Content for story submission, reviews, and news comments

Story content:

1. Adult content is allowed on the archive, however, stories containing adult content submitted to the archive must not use strong language (curse words) to describe sexual acts taking place in stories. For instance, the following example would not be acceptable for submission: He f***ed her/him hard and fast several times before they finally collapsed on the bed in exhaustion. When they woke the next morning they f***ed again.

2. All Stories rated R or NC-17 must be accompanied by a warning tag to alert potential readers as to why it was rated as such. For instance, if it is rated R due to strong language and graphic depictions of violence you would add the warnings for graphic violence and strong language.

3. The use of strong language (curses words) is permitted only in the context that a character uses the strong language verbally or to describe what a character may be thinking or feeling. It is not allowed when describing adult scenes as mentioned above.

Reviews and Comments:

1.   You must be a registered user to submit reviews.

2. Strong language (curses) and descriptions of sexual acts or graphic discussions of sexual acts are Not allowed in reviews, the comments of the news feeds, disclaimers, recommending a story, images, or anything else on the archive other than stories as mentioned above.

3. When reviewing a story, it is never acceptable to harass the author, other members, or non-members who’ve previously left a review if you do not agree with something. Likewise, nasty comments concerning the story will not be tolerated. Anyone caught in violation of this rule in addition to having their review removed, will receive at least one warning. If the harassment or nasty reviews continue, the offender will be banned from the archive for a limited amount of time or their membership will be revoked entirely at the discretion of the administrators.

If you believe a story was poorly written and is riddled with grammar, spelling, and/or punctuation mistakes you should either find a courteous way to tell the author or if you simply cannot say anything nice, don’t leave a review. There is a rating system available where you can rate the story from one to five stars. You do not have to leave a review to rate a story, so if you want to let the author know the story was not up to your standards simply rate it with a one.

Story Submission Approval/Rejection Rules

All stories will be validated by an admin before appearing in the archive. Because admins may not always be available to validate stories as soon as they are submitted, please allow anywhere from an hour to a week for your submission to be validated.

1. Approval: If your submitted story meets all the above rules an administrator will approve it and it will be viewable in the archive within 30 minutes. You will receive email notification when the submission is approved. In some instances, where the admin has the time to do so and the violations are minor, the admin may correct the mistakes themselves. If this happens the letter of approval will inform the author of the corrected violations and inform the author to not do it next time.

2. Rejection: If a story submission does not follow the rules listed above it may be rejected by an admin. If it is rejected the admin will send a denial email informing the author of the violations that were found and what they can do to correct it. After the corrections are made the author can resubmit the story.

3. Validation Bypass: If a member has submitted numerous stories and have proven to follow the rules and admins do not have to reject their submissions, an admin may validate the member. This means that the next time that member submits a story it will automatically be validated and the author will not have to wait for an admin to validate it.

If we discover after a member has been validated that they are no longer following the rules, the member will lose their validation privileges and be asked to correct the violations to the rules within a specified time. If the corrections are not made, the story will be removed and the member will have to resubmit the story for validation again.

To avoid submission rejection please read the story submission rules carefully and make sure to follow the rules.

Reporting Abuse

We try to ensure that spam and other abusive content does not make it onto the archive, however, it is impossible to prevent all of it. If you would like to report the abuse of any of the above rules of the archive please send email to an admin or use the contact us page. Please list “Abuse” in the subject line of the message and explain any pertinent details about the abuse you are reporting like what kind of abuse you are reporting, where it can be found at (in the reviews of a certain story, the comments of a news feed, etc. The more information you can provide, the easier it will be for us to locate and remove the abusive content.

Submissions, comments, reviews, image uploads, etc. found to be in violation of these rules may be removed and the author’s account suspended at the discretion of the site administrators. The archive admins reserve the right to modify these rules as needed with or without prior notification.
